B-Squad Girls Volleyball CoachÂ
Welcome, Alexandra Brooks. Although a Woodbury Native, Brooks played as a middle blocker for four years at Tartan High School. She received the "Most Improved Player Award" for three consecutive seasons. After transitioning her primary athletic focus from basketball to volleyball, Brooks continued her playing career with two years of club volleyball; including seasons with Tartan Juniors and Kokoro.
Following high school, Brooks began her coaching career with Woodbury Volleyball Club before attending the University of Arizona, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She later returned to Minnesota to complete a Master of Arts in Applied Child and Adolescent Development and pursue her career as a mental health therapist.
Brooks has coaching experience across both girls and boys volleyball. With Tartan High School's girls program, she served for two years as the B-Squad coach and one year as the JV coach. She coached three seasons at Tartan Juniors working with the 14s and 15s. She coached 16s and 18s at Minnesota Juniors. Her experience with boys volleyball includes two seasons as the Tartan High School JV coach before transitioning to the role of Varsity Assistant.
Brooks believes in developing the whole athlete. She is passionate about using her background in mental health to help athletes build confidence, resilience, and overall encourage positive identity development while recognizing that well-being is an important part of sustainable athletic performance. She has incorporated mindset and mental skills training into her coaching and, alongside a fellow Tartan Juniors coach, developed and facilitated a three-part wellness seminar for athletes and parents. The program addressed mental well-being, performance anxiety, and the importance of developing an identity beyond sports and academics. The success of the program contributed to the club receiving a JVA grant to expand its wellness programming the following season.
Brooks is passionate about creating an environment where athletes can grow both on and off the court. She strives to help players develop the skills, confidence, and resilience they need to perform at their best while also supporting their growth as individuals.
Outside of volleyball, She enjoys exploring the lakes around Minnesota, discovering new coffee and boba shops, spending time with friends and family, and playing and watching sports.
